Mary A surreal psychological short film about image, control, and what happens when the act of being seen becomes invasive. Women-written, women-directed, women-produced independent short. Seeking grounded, expressive actors excited to help bring this unsettling world to life.
Principal Roles
- Mary (Late 20s–Early 30s, Lead) A social media figure and writer trying to regain control of her public image after a public divorce and cheating scandal. Begins composed and guarded, but becomes increasingly unsettled as the interview turns invasive and surreal.
- Allison (Mid 40s, Supporting) An experienced interviewer/journalist who arrives at Mary’s home with warmth, confidence, and a clear agenda. Charming on the surface, but increasingly ruthless in pursuit of a sensational story.
Small Roles / Dayplayers
- Makeup Artist (30–50, Small Supporting): Adjusts Mary’s appearance for the camera.
- Assistant (20s, Small Supporting): Allison’s assistant, present during interview setup and production.
- Camera Operator (Open, Featured Supporting): Operates the interview camera, responds to Allison’s cues, builds the sense Mary is being watched.
- Photographer (Open, Featured Supporting): Takes photographs during the interview and outside Mary’s home, adding to the pressure and scrutiny.
Featured Background & Ensemble
- Interview Crew Members (3 needed): Set up lights, equipment, cameras, and props inside Mary’s home. Busy, efficient, slightly invasive.
- Paparazzi (4 needed): Photographers outside Mary’s house, visible during the media frenzy, creating external pressure.
- Fans (3–5 needed, Teens–Early 20s): Recognise Mary, take photos, establish her public visibility at the beginning of the film.
