About Me:
I was born and raised in a vibrant city in the north-west of England, and for the past 30 years I have lived in a nearby coastal town. I studied languages at university and spent more than three decades as a Civil Servant, working across various government departments, including roles related to asylum and immigration, before retiring.
My interests include languages, etymology, the history of ancient civilisations, travel, and literature. I am a sociable person who enjoys regular meet-ups with friends and family, as well as the occasional family holiday. I also love live music and attend concerts both locally and further away.
To make good use of my spare time, I volunteer occasionally with a local school, helping out on day trips for the children. It’s immensely rewarding and a real joy to see how much they enjoy themselves.
I have also volunteered as a telephone companion for someone who was housebound and had little social contact. This involved weekly phone calls over several months, and we both found it a meaningful experience that helped reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
While I wouldn’t describe myself as overtly political, I like to stay informed about current affairs and am a strong believer in equal rights, inclusivity, and mutual respect.
