About Me:
My name is Dennis, and I come from a diverse and multicultural background that has shaped who I am today. I am half Slovenian and half Vietnamese. I was born in Switzerland as a child of two war refugees. My dad ended up in Switzerland because of the Vietnam War and my Mom because of the Yugoslavia War. I spent the early years of my life in Switzerland. At the age of 9 my family relocated to Singapore, where I spent most of my formative years, attending both primary school, middle school and high school. Living in Singapore, an international hub with a mix of cultures, was an eye-opening experience that broadened my horizons and helped me develop a global mindset.
Now, I find myself in yet another part of the world, studying Engineering at King’s College in London. This new chapter in my life has been both challenging and exciting, as I work to balance the rigours of academic life with the incredible opportunity to live in one of the world’s most vibrant and diverse cities. I am grateful for the opportunity to have lived in such different parts of the world, which has allowed me to grow both personally and academically.
Throughout my life, sports have been a major influence, shaping my discipline and resilience. I started parkour in third grade and continued until ninth, which taught me agility and perseverance. In middle and high school, I played basketball, and rugby in high school, both of which enhanced my teamwork and leadership skills. Recently, I’ve taken up MMA, pushing my physical and mental limits, while going to the gym has been a regular habit since ninth grade to maintain strength and balance.
Outside of sports, I enjoy more ‘nerdy’ hobbies like playing video games, programming, and solving Rubik’s cubes. These pursuits provide a mental challenge and a way to unwind, allowing me to balance my active lifestyle with intellectual interests. Together, these experiences have helped me grow into a well-rounded and disciplined individual.
